School of Technology

The School of Technology is looking to recruit an experienced administrator who will be responsible for supporting the School's governance activities as well as the operations management for the School Office.

You will report to the Secretary of the School, while building strong links within the four Departments and one Institution of the School. You will also work closely with colleagues in several of the central Divisions of the University, for example acting as liaison on consultations and areas of designated responsibility, and taking part in the development of University policies.

As the senior administrator for governance you will be responsible for supporting the effective and efficient running of the School governing body, the Council of the School, and  the smooth flow of business between the sub-committees and the Council of the School. Previous experience of preparing agendas, papers and minutes, managing actions and processes, and ensuring seamless operations for high level committees in an education environment will be advantageous.

You will lead on the development and implementation of operational processes at the School level, defining timescales and taking into account relevant inputs from senior management within the School and from the Departments if necessary. Projects may include compliance issues for the School Office such as the School's conflict of interest register, risk register, emergency planning and data compliance. This is an interesting and fast developing area in light of changes and developments over the last two years. You will also be asked to lead on other emerging work.

You will be a well-organised and capable person who is happy to handle new situations such as being asked to lead or contribute to projects which are driving change within the University.

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and all-round communication skills who has the skill to get important messages through to people at the busiest of times, and eliciting any necessary responses. The role would suit someone who may already have experience of managing the operations of a small team and who is adept and developing processes and policies to cope with new activities, and can take advantage of technological developments to support them.

Candidates must have a degree level education or equivalent, together with administration experience preferably in a higher education environment. You will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, the ability to work on your own initiative, to prioritise work and keep to deadlines. You will also possess excellent people management skills including one to one line management experience and the ability to develop and maintain teams.

You will be comfortable managing a varied workload which will also on occasion include other tasks appropriate to the role.

Interviews will be held in the week commencing 24 January 2022.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
