School Committees
Members of the University can access the terms of reference and unreserved minutes for the Council of the School and its Committees (except for Strategy and Planning and Human Resources Committee), for meetings held after 1 January 2018, via the School intranet. University members can also view the meeting dates for the current academic year.
The Council of the School of Technology
The responsibilities and formal membership of each Council of School is set out in the University’s Statutes and Ordinances (Statute A Chapter V):
- to allocate funds made available by the General Board of the University
- to advise the General Board on matters referred to it by the Board
- to report to the General Board on any question about which it's opinion is sought
- to perform other functions as may be delegated to it by the General Board
Membership of the Council of the School
- the Heads of Department of the Departments of Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Judge Business School and Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, all of whom shall be members ex officio,
- one person appointed by each Faculty Board of Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, the Computer Laboratory and the Judge Business School,
- any member of the General Board who holds a University office in any of the institutions of the School,
- persons co-opted by the Council of the School,
- one undergraduate and one postgraduate representative, elected by the student body.
Committees reporting to the Council of the School
The Committees below are accountable directly to the Council of the School:
Strategy and Planning Committee
Develops and implements the School strategy and allocates or approves resource allocations, on behalf of the Council of the School.
Research Committee
Develops a research strategy and high level research themes, maintains oversight of research funding bids and has an overview of REF activities.
Postgraduate Education Committee
Develops postgraduate education strategy, implements University policies on postgraduate education and oversees researcher development funding.
Undergraduate Education Committee
Reviews the undergraduate courses offered by the departments of the School, sharing best practice to improve teaching and learning. Ensures teaching within the School of Technology has appropriate links with other disciplines across the University.
Human Resources Committee
Develops and implements School-level HR strategy and policies. Implements University HR schemes on behalf of the School, such as the Contribution Reward Scheme. Maintains an overview of staffing within the School.
