Animals Scientific Procedures Act

Research involving animals

Guidance in these pages for the Cambridge schools of technology and physical sciences applies specifically to research with human participants, and not to research with animals.

If your research involves animals in experimental or other scientific procedures, including field based research, then it is subject to the Animals Scientific Procedures Act 1986, which regulates any experimental, or other scientific procedure applied to any vertebrate other than man. All such proposals must be refered to the Ethical Review Process. A(SP)A 1986.

In the case of Clinical Veterinary Research the Clinical Research Ethics Committee will consider these applications and will advise the University Certificate Holder.
